Halloween 2019

Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2019 occurred on Thursday, October 31.

The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death.

Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.

To celebrate the event this year, we at Agrupamento de Escolas São Lourenço had a beautiful exhibition of witch's hats made by the students and their families. We decorated our schools and helped ourselves to some treats.

All this was made possible with our students' contributions, hard work and enthusiasm. We the English teachers take this opportunity to thank our students and their respective families diligence and help.

CHRISTMAS 2019

We pulled our crackers and enjoyed it!

This year the 3rd and 4th years personalized our holiday with cheer with handmade ornaments: crackers. We learned that Crackers are a much-loved British tradition that is enjoyed in many parts throughout the world as an essential component of any good Christmas celebration. Our Crackers were a lot of fun to make, and we personalized them for your recipients. We surprised friends and family Here are some of our photos showing you some of the steps so you'll learn how to create your own Christmas crackers from scratch too.

Well done guys!!!!

Celebrating love through friendship!!!!

We at Agrupamento São Lourenço showed our school community that February 14th is a great time to show appreciation for friends – the old ones, the close ones, the fast ones, the true ones, and most importantly, the best ones. We all participated eagerly and with much excitement as we incorporated friendship and kindness in our work, whilst learning that VALENTINE'S DAY IS A CELEBRATION OF FRIENDSHIP.

saint patrick's day

Saint Patrick's started in Ireland, but today it is a holiday in many countries. Green is an important colour on Saint Patrick’s Day.  People wear green clothes and shamrocks. Some people dress up as leprechauns.

We, at Agrupamento São Lourenço, celebrated this day with Saint Patrick's paper bracelets.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, is usually celebrated on the first day of spring. This year we celebrated Spring in a different way…With our families and at home… Safe in our cocoons. Throughout the week 14th – 17th April our 4th-year students read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle and made their very own special mini-book to retell the story.

SPRING

Springtime is the perfect time to learn and explore vocabulary about this season. We love our third-year students' drawings on the theme as they learn and as they indulge us with their work.

MY Family

Some families are big and some are small. Families are different Some have mothers and some have fathers. Some have sisters and some have brothers. But what is important is that they are our special place and we love our families.

Storytelling activity

'Unless we teach a child to read, we hobble that child for the rest of his life' - John Major

As a teacher I have to agree with Mr. Major. Reading opens horizons. It heightens your imagination and creativity. Reading is a fundamental tool for all learning. It is the key to a world of knowledge. Helping children to read is making them interested, wise, lifelong readers, and above all lovers of books.

Our 4th-year students heard the story “Ketchup on Your Cornflakes”, by Nick Sharratt,  did their own mini-books and retold the story.do
